Årø – a Day Trip to the Island in the Little Belt
The small island of Årø lies in the Little Belt off Haderslev Fjord, not far from Halk Strand Camping. With just under 6 km² and around 150 inhabitants, the island is a peaceful destination for a day in nature.
The ferry from Årøsund
The ferry sails from the harbour village of Årøsund, and the crossing takes only 7–8 minutes. Bikes and cars can come along – perfect for a cycle ride around the island.
Vineyard, nature and bird life
Årø Vingård has been growing Danish wine since 2004. The island is also a bird protection area, and Årø Kalv is closed during the breeding season from April to July.
Explore Årø from Halk
Årøsund is a short drive north of Halk Strand Camping. Combine the island trip with a walk by the harbour in Årøsund and return to the beach at Halk in the evening.
Tips for your visit
Feel free to take your bike on the ferry, and please respect the access ban on Årø Kalv during the breeding season.
Årøsund
Before or after the island trip, take a walk by the harbour and the lighthouse in Årøsund, where you will also find Årøsund Badehotel from 1903.
